FAQs

  • TLDR: Everyone’s postpartum needs are different and although placenta products aren’t a cure all, they can enhance and complement your journey.

Reports and limited research have shown that placenta consumption could benefit postpartum people with things like mood support, trace elements of hormones and minerals (like iron), lactation support, and energy levels among other things. If someone decides to encapsulate or consume their placenta, they have a number of options in terms of preparation method.

Placenta products can be a great complement to the other emotional and physical healing and recovery work you’re doing with self care plans, through nutrition, and with practitioners like counselors and bodyworkers.

  • TLDR: You’ve got options!

For internal use, people might decide to have their placenta turned into pills, smoothies, tinctures, cubes, broth, or cooked and eaten. For external use, people might have their placenta put into salves and creams, jewelry, or they can even bury it with a tree or plant. Whatever someone decides, I highly recommend that it be one component of your postpartum plan rather than what you hinge your entire recovery on.

  • TLDR: Safety is a top priority.

To reduce the risk of transmission of harmful bacterias and ensure a safe experience, you can expect the following:

•Pre-encapsulation meeting to discuss logistics, allergens, and other info

•Use of head to toe personal protective equipment

•Disinfecting and sanitizing all tools and surfaces before and after each use

•Encapsulating one placenta at a time

•Conducting an inspection of the placenta prior to beginning processing

    •Consulting with other professionals

•Maintaining and following blood-borne pathogen and infection control knowledge

•Maintaining and following food handler safety knowledge

•Encouraging that placenta consumption should not replace seeking professional support
